What To Expect at Your Child’s Dentist Appointment?

There are several things we will examine and tend to during pediatric dentistry:

Oral Cleanings – Our dental hygienists will carefully remove any plaque and calculus. This helps remove stains from the teeth and below the gum line, and helps to prevent decay.

X-Rays – As needed, we will take pictures of what is happening below the gumline to help identify cavities in their early stages, assess root development, and identify adult teeth coming in below the gum.

Oral Inspection – Our pediatric dentist will carefully examine your child’s mouth, gums, and teeth for any warning signs of decay, cavities, or other dental problems.

Fluoride Treatments – Depending on the patient, our children’s dentist may recommend a fluoride treatment to help strengthen tooth enamel and prevent tooth decay. Adminstering fluoride is a safe and effective treatment for children and used around the world. Only a small amount of dental fluoride is applied and it hardens quickly – the potential to swallow is negligible.

Dental Sealants – If your child has not had dental sealants before, we may recommend this treatment to seal off the surface area of teeth. Dental sealants are very effective at preventing cavities.

Oral Care Advice – Both our hygienist and pediatric dentist will recommend ways to improve your child’s oral care habits, such as how to properly brush and floss.
